AKARTA, Indonesia – A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit off the Indonesian island of Java late Wednesday, April 6, US seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was immediately issued.

The earthquake hit at 9:45 pm local time (1445 GMT), the US Geological Survey said, some 110 kilometers (68 miles) south of the city of Banjar in West Java, at a depth of 35 kilometers.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where tectonic plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity in the region.
